American Legion Auxiliary
Unit 231 hosts Toys for Tots Benefit
Last Friday evening, December
13th, The American Legion Post 231 Auxiliary Unit hosted over 50 guests
for a benefit for Toys for Tots. Guests were invited to contribute a new,
unwrapped toy for a free dinner. Many of the toys were reserved for ‘Lunch
with Santa’ on the following Sunday in which neighborhood children received
a toy from Old Saint Nick, himself. One of the nicer donations was a brand
new bicycle brought in and placed under the tree by American Legion member
Bob Havener.
Entertainment was provided
and donated by Jimmy James (Thompson) and the Blues Band, which is largely
made up of members of the Sons of the American Legion, including past Sons
of The American Legion Detachment Commander, Gary Winters. In attendance
were Bill Allison and Don McCutcheon of the Pottsboro Chamber of Commerce.
The Chamber took this opportunity to present B.M. Stephens, coordinator
of the Marine Corps League, Texoma Detachment, Toys for Tots Campaign,
a check for $1,315 from the Chamber’s efforts. The American Legion Auxiliary
Unit prepared an outstanding spaghetti dinner and they always have a fresh
home-cooked meal the second Friday of every month. As always, members of
the Pottsboro community are invited as guests at any time.
